The 2011 U.S. Women's Open came down to a three-hole playoff on Monday, and So Yeon Ryu defeated Hee Kyung Seo for her first LPGA Tour victory. The 21-year-old was doused with a variety of liquids after she sank her final putt. Eun-Hee Ji, 2009 winner, and Se Ri Pak, 1998 winner, both came out and congratulated her on the victory. She had finished 25th in last year's U.S. Women's Open.
The playoff began on the 16th hole, which both players made par. Moving to the 17th, Seo hit her tee shot into a fairway bunker, while Ryu made it onto the fairway proper. Ryu took the lead by making birdie on the hole and was u by two strokes after Seo's bogey. Then on the 18th, Seo missed a birdie putt and saw Ryu make the birdie put to win the aggregate playoff at 2-under.
