College World Series 2011 Results: North Carolina Eliminates Texas In 3-0 Victory

The Texas Longhorns are the first team eliminated from the 2011 College World Series after North Carolina freshman pitcher Kent Emmanuel threw a complete game shutout on Monday afternoon. John Manuel of Baseball America notes this is the first complete game shutout by a freshman in the CWS since 1993 when LSU's Brett Laxton did it and the first complete game shutout in the CWS since 2006 when UNC's Robert Woodard did it.

Over nine innings, Emmanuel scattered four hits over the game, walked one and struck out five. Texas' Jonathan Walsh picked up two of the hits. Emmanuel went 8-1 with a 2.55 ERA during the regular season.

The Tar Heels put two runs on the board in the third inning when Jacob Stallings drove in Chaz Frank and Ben Bunting. A double by Bunting in the top of the ninth inning gave the Tar Heels a 3-0 cushion. Bunting went 4-for-5 in the game.
