2011 College World Series Results: Scott Wingo Delivers South Carolina A 5-4 Victory Over Texas A&M

South Carolina's Scott Wingo could not be stopped by Texas A&M pitchers in their opening game of the 2011 College World Series; Wingo capped a 4-for-4 night with the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give his team a 5-4 victory. The Gamecocks will face Virginia on Tuesday.

South Carolina C Robert Beary picked up his second hit of the night when he started the bottom of the ninth with a double. Jackie Bradley Jr., who returned to the lineup after a wrist injury in April, knocked out his first hit of the game with a single that put Beary on third base. Evan Marzilli worked a walk, which put Scott Wingo in the batter's box. A single to right field put Beary across home plate to end the game.

After each team gave up four runs in the first inning, a pitchers' duel ensued. Texas A&M and Colorado Rockies draft pick Ross Stripling kept the Gamecocks off the board for seven innings after the first frame. He struck out six and walked one batter. South Carolina's Michael Roth also overcame his first inning struggles, but didn't have any of the runs charged to him. He did walk five while striking out eight.

While South Carolina faces Virginia on Tuesday, Texas A&M will play for its CWS life against Cal in the early game that day.
