The 2011 NBA Finals are over and the Dallas Mavericks are our champions. After the spectacle of LeBron James making "The Decision" last July to the narrative of the Big 3 winning multiple championships, from Cavs owner Dan Gilbert making all kinds of noise of LeBron's departure to Scottie Pippen making odd comments about LeBron James being better than Michael Jordan, it doesn't matter anymore. The Dallas Mavericks, led by Dirk Nowitzki but complemented by Jason Kidd, Jason Terry, J.J. Barea, Tyson Chandler and all the others, showed the triumvirate in Miami how a championship is won.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert summed it up best in a tweet after the game ended:
Congrats to Mark C.&entire Mavs org. Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all:There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE.
And now Carmelo Anthony will need to avoid the pitfalls of being THE PLAYER in New York. He has the money, he has the fame, he has the market, but that ring will be so hard to obtain. The Denver Nuggets, meanwhile, are attempting to build a team to win the NBA championship. To the 2011-2012 season!
