2011 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament: Denver Pioneers In Deep Hole, 9-2, To Virginia Cavaliers

The Denver Pioneers are down, 9-2, at halftime to the Virginia Cavaliers in their semifinals matchup. It's going to take one spectacular comeback in the second half for the Pioneers if they want to play in the National Title game on Monday.

The Cavs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after five minutes of play, but the Pioneers were able to close it to a one-goal gap less than a minute later. However, the Cavs were relentless in their offense and built a 5-2 lead after the first quarter. At the end of the first half, the Cavs held a 9-2 lead.

The Pioneers failed to score in over 20 minutes and counting. They've attempted 12 shots, but have only seven on net. Andrew Lay and Jeremy Noble have the Pioneer goals, while Todd Baxter, Mark Matthews and Alex Demopoulos have attempted a combined one shot on net. Freshman goalie Jamie Faus has made just four saves.

For the Cavaliers, First-Team All-American Steele Stanwick has two goals and one assists so far. Chris Bocklet has also put two in the net.
