2011 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament Results: Duke Joins Final Four With Victory Over Notre Dame

Holding true to form in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament, the No. 5 Duke Blue Devils dispatched the No. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 7-5, on Sunday afternoon to complete the lower-seeded/unranked sweep.

It was an even contest for the most of the game. Notre Dame started with a 3-1 lead after the first period, but the Blue Devils held them scoreless in the second quarter and tied the game at three by halftime. Duke never faced much of a challenge from the Irish in the final quarter. After Duke scored three goals that period, Notre Dame was only able to put one more goal on the board, which came with 16 seconds left in the game.

Notre Dame's Westy Hopkins scored three goals, while Justin Turri was Duke's leading scorer with two goals.

On May 28, Duke will play Maryland in the semifinals. The other matchup is between the Denver Pioneers and the Virginia Cavaliers.
