The LSU Tigers baseball team is off to a good start with an 11-1 record and a top-20 ranking in the polls. One reason for that has been standout freshman pitcher Kevin Gausman. Gausman, who hails from Centennial, Colo., passed on signing a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers last summer and stayed with his commitment to LSU.
↵In three starts so far, Gausman has shown why he is highly thought of as a pro prospect. In three starts, Gausman has helped the Tigers to two wins. He made his most recent start on March 5 against Princeton. He struck out a career-high nine batters in six innings and allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk. Head coach Paul Mainieri had high praise for Gausman in the Times-Picayune.
↵On the season, Gausman is 2-0 with 2.55 ERA in 17 2/3 innings. He leads the team with 22 strikeouts and has walked only four batters.
↵Is it too early for me to start imagining him as a Rockies first-round draft pick in a few years?
