Finally. Mammoth fans, breathe a sigh of relief and say… finally.
The Colorado Mammoth have finally exorcised the demons that have been plaguing them since way back in 2009 with a home win against the Boston Blazers, 9-8 in overtime. Those trades at the deadline worked and HOW!
Joel Delgarno had an impressive first game as a Colorado Mammoth with a hat trick and six shots on goal. New addition and former Mammoth captain Gavin Prout had a goal and an assist to his credit as well, providing the Mammoth a lot of hope for the playoff push coming up.
Colorado looked much better than they had in most games this year, keeping the game within a single goal for the majority of it with 3-2, 4-3, 5-4 and 6-5 scores holding the majority of the clock. Chris Levis looked uncharacteristically sharp in goal, fending off a Penalty Shot in the second quarter and stopping a lot of difficult balls. Even the defense looked sharper than usual allowing only 8 goals, a season low. Undoubtedly it was another new guy – Ian Hawksbee – who was the catalyst. It was our old friend John Grant Jr. who scored the winning goal in overtime.
Colorado’s playoff push is slowly falling, but they still have three games left against fellow West rival, the Edmonton Rush. Those three games will most likely decide who makes it in. This ‘new look’ Mammoth might just have what it takes if they can build on tonight’s performance.
