On Feb. 19, David Makowski, a freshman on the Denver Pioneers hockey team, scored a goal that you don't see very often:

With senior defenseman John Ryder in the box for a delay of game, the Pioneers had a faceoff in their end of the ice. Makowski received the puck and took a wrist shot from behind his goal line. There was a bit of traffic in front of him, but the puck went sailing down the ice about 180 feet, finally slipping past Michigan Tech goalie Kevin Genoe.
↵Tech captain Deron Cousens skated down the ice to give an encouraging word or two to Genoe. It was a lucky goal, so Genoe shouldn't feel too bad about it.
↵On the season, Makowski has five goals and 18 assists with a plus-11. The Pioneers took that game, 5-1, after a loss in the first contest between the teams on Friday. Will they drop from the No. 4 ranking this week?
