The 2011 Sun Bowl will feature the Utah Utes against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a Pac-12 vs. ACC matchup. The Utes had to settle for the Sun Bowl once they lost to the Colorado Buffaloes in the last game of the regular season. A victory would have given the team an eighth win on the season, the Pac-12 South division title and a place in the conference title game. Instead, they had to wait for the Sun Bowl to call for them.
The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, turned a 6-0 start into an 8-4 regular season record by going 2-4 after the middle of November. One of those final two victories came against ACC champion Clemson while two of the losses were to Virginia Tech and Georgia, all ranked teams. The Yellow Jackets will offer the Utes a challenge with the option offense that averages 316.8 yards per game, third best in the nation.
