2011 Sun Bowl Final Score: Utah Rolls To 30-27 Victory Over Georgia Tech

The Utah Utes won their first bowl game as a member of the Pac-12, defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 30-27, in the 2011 Sun Bowl. The Utes overcame a 14-point deficit in the final quarter to tie the game at 24, sending the game to overtime.

Georgia Tech received their set of downs first and wound up kicking a field goal to take the 27-24 lead. On the ensuing Utah drive, Jon Hays threw a nine-yard pass to Shawn Asiata to convert 3rd-and-3 to a first down. John White IV brought the ball to the three-yard line but a false start penalty brought the ball back to the eight-yard line. White then ran eight yards for the game-winning score. The Utes ran onto the field to celebrate the 30-27 victory.

Had the referees wanted to, they could have reviewed the play as it was a close call. White might have had a knee down before he cracked the end zone. However, the referees declined and the play stood.
