New Florida Atlantic Owls head coach Carl Pelini has hired Montana State Bobcats offensive coordinator Brian Wright to make the tip out east and take the same position at the Football Bowl Subdivision school, reports the Sun-Sentinel. Wright oversaw an offense that was No. 17 in the nation for total yards per game at the FCS level with 430.15. The team averaged 212.23 rushing yards and 217.92 passing yards.
Pelini was hired on Dec. 5 by FAU after Howard Schnellenberger retired. Pelini was the defensive coordinator for his brother Bo at the University of Nebraska. Florida Atlantic made the jump to the FBS level in 2004 but has not made a bowl game in the previous three season, bottoming out at 1-11 this season. Pelini will be the second coach of this young FCS team and will look to build it into a Sun Belt power.
An official announcement is expected to come soon.
