The Colorado Avalanche blew two leads, but they were able to hold onto their third lead in a 3-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night. The game was tied going into the third period but the Avalanche managed to break up the tie midway through the period and then hold off the Coyotes' comeback attempts.
Even though the Coyotes had a clear shot advantage after the Avalanche took the lead and went into a bit of a defensive mode, they weren't able to tie things up for a third time. Colorado had already blown 1-0 and 2-1 leads on the night. Gabriel Landeskog scored the game-winning goal for the Avalanche, his eighth goal of the season.
The win bumps Colorado to 20-18-1 on the year, a nice rebound from the disappointing 4-1 loss to Winnipeg on Dec. 27. Phoenix is now 18-16-4 this season, having lost four consecutive games.
