The Utah State Aggies received a couple of lucky breaks in the first quarter to jump out to a 9-0 lead over the Ohio Bobcats in the 2011 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. On the Aggies' opening drive, the team reached Ohio's goal line but failed to convert on 4th-and-1, turning the ball over to the Bobcats. However, Ohio quarterback Tyler Tettleton wound up running out of bounds through the end zone, giving the Aggies a 2-0 lead.
On the next Aggies drive, quarterback Adam Kennedy appeared to throw an interception. However, a review of the play returned the ball to Utah State for a 4th-and-12 opportunity. A personal foul on the ensuing field goal allowed Utah State to decline the points and go for the score. A few plays later, Kennedy found Tarren Lloyd for the three-yard touchdown and the 9-0 lead.
