Will Utah State Aggies running back Robert Turbin be playing in his final college football game on Saturday when he goes up against the Ohio Bobcats in the 2011 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl? Turbin is on the fence right now, but it all depends on where he is projected to be draft in April. Turbin recently told the Salt Lake Tribune that returning for a sixth year could happen since he could pursue a master's degree and the Heisman Trophy. While the latter is unlikely, Turbin understands the realities of an NFL career and a master's degree would be enough insurance should things not pan out.
Turbin's coach, Gary Andersen, has apparently heard that the running back is projected to be a third-round pick and will ask for another evaluation after the bowl game. If it stays in the same area, Turbin will be encouraged to declare for the draft.
Turbin began school in 2007 but received a medical redshirt in 2007 and then missed the 2010 season after an offseason knee injury. In 2009, Turbin rushed for 1,296 yards and found the end zone 13 times. Returning in 2011, Turbin didn't lose a step. He put up 1,416 yards (No. 8 in FBS) with 19 touchdowns. He caught four touchdowns as well.
