Oklahoma St. Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden appeared to have a clear shot at the 2011 Heisman Trophy last week after Boise St. Broncos quarterback Kellen Moore and Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck both lost in their biggest games of the season. But on Friday night, the Oklahoma St. Cowboys dropped a double overtime game, 37-31, to the Big 12's afterthought, the Iowa St. Cyclones.
Weeden did complete 42-of-48 passes for 476 yards and three touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions, including a game-changer late in the contest. Now he joins Luck and Moore in the category of possible Heisman contenders while the 10-0 Houston Cougars' quarterback Case Keenum might be the front-runner now. He faces the SMU Mustangs on Saturday an will look to avoid the fate of his fellow quarterbacks in recent weeks.
