The Colorado Rapids made their first selection in today’s MLS Superdraft, choosing fullback Eddie Ababio from Georgia.

The Rapids wound up choosing Eddie Ababio from the University of North Carolina with their pick, a USA/Ghana attacking fullback. With LB/RB depth a big need for Colorado, Ababio is a safe if not spectacular pick.
After winning the franchise’s first ever MLS Cup this past season, the Rapids can probably afford safer selections in the draft than most teams. They already have a championship caliber team, and adding complementary pieces that mesh well within Coach Gary Smith’s vision is the most important factor in this draft.
