Team USA sweeps into FIBA Semifinals

After today’s 89-79 victory over Russia, the United States find themselves in unfamiliar territory; undefeated and favorites for the FIBA World Championship, a title they haven’t held since 1994. Shocking, I know.

But this so called “B Team” that the US has placed on the court is proving their worth, led by Chauncey Billups.

Billups’ numbers in the tournament so far are impressive:

↵

22 mpg, 11.6 ppg, 3.3 apg, 47% shooting.

↵

He has performed admirably as the starting PG for Team USA and has made several crucial shots, including in the 3rd quarter of today’s game to help give Team USA a comfortable margin of victory. Kevin Durant has received most of the attention, and rightfully so, but Billups may be the most important member of the team right now.

Let’s just hope he gets plenty of rest before the start of NBA camp, preferably with a FIBA Gold Medal around his neck.
