Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Taylor Buchholz long road from Tommy John surgery took another unexpected turn today, as the team has designated him for assignment in order to call up backup catcher Paul Phillips from AAA Colorado Springs.
Buchholz has struggled with his health all season, and was never able to fully regain his form from a stellar 2008 season. He can now be claimed by any MLB team.
Phillips was called up as insurance with Miguel Olivo suffering an injury during the ninth inning of Colorado’s 10-5 victory over Cincinnati on Labor Day.
