Race For The Triple Crown: Carlos Gonzalez Makes Up Some Ground

As Carlos Gonzalez has continued to assert himself in the race for the Triple Crown, we have decided to create a StoryStream here on SB Nation Denver that will update you each morning with the previous night's results. The Triple Crown, which requires the winner to lead his league in batting average, home runs and RBI, hasn't been achieved in the National League since 1937. Joey Votto, Albert Pujols and yes, Carlos Gonzalez have combined to give us hope for a fantastic finish, and this will be the place to follow it all.

Last night's results:

Joey Votto: 0-2
Albert Pujols: 0-4
Carlos Gonzalez: 3-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI

Here are the current numbers as of Sept. 2:

AVG HR RBI
Carlos Gonzalez .329 (1st) 30 (5th) 92 (3rd)
Albert Pujols .313 (5th) 35 (1st) 95 (2nd)
Joey Votto .325 (2nd) 32 (3rd) 97 (1st)
