The roster freeze was today so the Rapids needed to act quickly to finish any moves that they wanted to pull off, and pull of they did. Perhaps realizing their shrinking stock in the midfield after trading Mehdi Ballouchy yesterday, he Rapids traded for veteran midfielder Brian Mullan from the Houston Dynamo – along with a 4th round draft pick in 2013 – in return for Colin Clark and cash.
The 32 year old Colorado native Mullan immediately adds a wily veteran presence to the team as he has scored a good chunk of goals in his time as well as winning four MLS Cup titles, most recently with the Dynamo in 2007. He had tallied 3 goals and 3 assists in his time with the Dynamo this season, likely meaning he is meant to be the replacement for Ballouchy as a starting playmaker in the midfield.
Colin Clark has had a fairly good career with Colorado but after tearing his ACL two seasons in a row while wearing the burgundy, perhaps a new start elsewhere could do him some good once he has healed up. We wish him all the best once his career starts up again in Houston.
The roster freeze deadline has hit, so the team is stuck this way come playoff time.
