Wishes Don't Come True: Rockies Pitchers Fail Lately

Before last night's game, the Denver Post's Jim Armstrong reports, Jim Tracy believed the Rockies would receive a strong outing by Jason Hammel:

"If I had a wish for tonight — sometimes they get granted, sometimes they don't — it would be for Jason Hammel to go out there and give us seven really good innings," Tracy said before the game. "I personally feel we're about due for one of those."

That wish wasn't granted as Hammel lasted only four innings and allowed four runs on 10 hits. As Armstrong later quotes the starting pitcher, Hammel took all the blame for this one. And well he should, because five relievers were used to finish the game. And five relievers were used in the game on Sept. 13. Let's check Sept. 12 also. Five relievers as well.

In one of the most critical of series down the stretch, the Rockies have failed to receive adequate starting pitching and now enter a Wednesday afternoon game with Jorge De La Rosa on the mound. Better hope that De La Rosa doesn't find himself plagued by strike zone-itis, because that might just mean Franklin Morales will enter the game.
