Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri recently spoke with Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, and as Spears reports, Ujiri is committed to convincing Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony to sign a contract extension with Denver rather than looking for greener pastures as a free agent next summer.
But while Ujiri wouldn’t say anything substantial about the possibility of trading Anthony before he can jilt the Nuggets, Spears does cite a “league source” saying Denver was "asking for the world” when teams called to inquire about Anthony’s trade availability. In other words, don’t expect a firesale.
Spears’ report includes more of Ujiri’s comments on other subjects, including how the absence of head coach George Karl down the stretch last year affected the team. It’s an insightful and worthwhile read.
