Not the Rapids best performance. They showed a lot of poise at points in the game, but struggled to finish and couldn’t keep possession more often than not, leading to a 1-1 final.
The first half featured a whole lot of nothing, with only a smattering of shots for either team, most of which were either sickeningly easy for the keepers to get to or missing the nets entirely. Jeff Larentowicz celebrated going back to his hometown of Philly by scoring a fantastic goal off a howitzer of a shot in the 59th minute.
The Rapids were able to hold the lead for a while, but their lack of ability to keep possession and not turn it over repeatedly eventually led to a barrage of shots by Philly. Julien Baudet missed an easy sliding tackle in the six yard box and Danny Mwenga made him pay with a great shot that slid under Matt Pickens.
After that the shots dried up, with just about nothing until an 86th minute shot by Pablo Mastroeni that missed by inches as he took on goalkeeper Chris Seitz one on one.
The Rapids next play in Columbus on the 21st.
