Mora And Francis Combine For Rockies' Victory In New York

The Colorado Rockies evened their series against the New York Mets on the strength of six solid innings from Jeff Francis and one enormous swing of the bat from veteran infielder Melvin Mora.

Down 2-1 in the top of the 8th inning, Melvin Mora hit his fourth career grand slam to put the Rockies up for good 5-2 and help salvage a disappointing road trip.

Matt Belisle anchored a strong bullpen by striking out the side in the bottom of the 8th inning and earning the win. Mets reliever Hisanori Takahashi earned the loss.

The Rockies and Mets play the rubber match on Thursday morning in a crucial pitching matchup, with ace Johan Santana toeing the rubber against Colorado’s Jason Hammel.
