Denver, CO (Sports Network) – Ian Stewart knocked in a career-high six runs and his grand slam was the big blow in a five-run seventh inning as Colorado rallied to down San Diego, 10-8, in the opener of a three-game set at Coors Field.
Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who recorded their fifth straight win and ninth in their last 11. Miguel Olivo added two hits and an RBI and Jason Giambi also drove in a run for Colorado, which posted its fourth dramatic win in its last five contests.
Matt Belisle (4-3) allowed a run in his one relief inning but earned the win. Huston Street turned in a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.
Adrian Gonzalez slugged a two-run homer, Aaron Cunningham posted three hits and drove in two runs and Scott Hairston added an RBI hit for the Padres, who have lost three of four.
Luke Gregerson (2-5) surrendered Stewart’s game-changing slam and was charged with the loss and a blown save.
