Peaks & Valleys - July 7 - Post-Rockies Incredible Comeback Edition

New, 1 comment

Wow! I hope you didn't turn off the Rockies game early last night. Because if you did, you missed one of the best comeback games of the season. It had drama; it had tension; it had hilarity; it had passion; and it had a Rockies victory tucked in at the end. It had home runs, a run scored on passed balls, a run-scoring single, a player scoring from first on a single. Those two three-run homers by Chris Iannetta (brought the score to 7-9) and Seth Smith (to give the Rockies the 12-9 victory) both off of Ryan Franklin. Franklin was hung out there to dry.

Peaks

-That ninth inning was fantastic, incredible, mesmerizing, improbable, unexpected. Read Purple Row's reaction to the game.

↵

-Manny Corpas, who has had a string of recent bad outings lately, turned in two solid innings of relief. He allowed no base runners.

↵

-Chris Iannetta played third base last night, the second time in his career. The last time he did that was back in 2008 against the Giants. Iannetta also hit a home run in that game (though not nearly as dramatic as the one last night in the ninth).

-Carlos Gonzalez went 4-for-6 with a home run and three RBI. Vote CarGo!

Valleys

↵

-Jeff Francis started out this season with good results, but now he's nothing to write home about. He put the Rockies into an early hole, allowing five runs in four innings.

↵

-Jhoulys Chacin moved to the bullpen with Jorge De La Rosa rejoining the rotation soon. The transition failed to work out yesterday as he allowed four runs over the fifth and sixth innings. Give him a couple more chances or maybe he should be starting down in the Springs.
