Baseball Trade Deadline: Rockies Waiting 'Til End of Month

Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies won't consider making a trade until the end of the month:

Baseball's trading deadline is barely three weeks away, and the Rockies are preparing to make a move. But preparing to make one and actually doing it could prove to be different notions altogether.

"I'm going to wait till the end of the month," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "We've already started having conversations, seeing what clubs are going to do what. But this has been a season where everything has changed so dramatically from one day to another — what we need now may not be the same thing we need two weeks from now."

The rumor mill has already started up as Cliff Lee is the topic of discussion for the Twins and possibly the Tampa Bay Rays. While it is unlikely the Rockies will pull off a deal to acquire a big name, Dan O'Dowd is known to make a shrewd deal from time time.
