Peaks & Valleys - July 20 - Rockies Lose Heartbreaker, Look For Key Players To Return

It's cliched to write or say, but with 162 games in a baseball season fans are bound to see everything from the amazing to the heartbreaking. From no-hitters to perfect games. From the cycle to 15+ strikeouts in a game. And then we see something that happened last night.

Johnny Herrera goes from being the goat of the game for his throwing error in the third, resulting in two runs scored, to the hero with a three-run homer in the eighth inning give the Rockies an 8-7 lead. There's no better way to hit your first career home run than the one that wins the game for your team.

But then the friction of a baseball game places Donnie Murphy into the game as a pinch-hitter. With one man on and two pitches later, Donnie Murphy wins the game with a homer.

So, yeah, it's a tough loss to take, but on some level you probably feel a bit of good for Murphy, an even more unlikely hero than Herrera. If you don't, you don't, but moments like that are what make us baseball fans.
