Rockies Miss Opportunities In Cincinnati, Fall 3-2

At first, it seemed like the Colorado Rockies were going to make yet another comeback. Unfortunately, missed opportunities wasted yet another stellar pitching performance by Jason Hammel.

Hammel went seven strong innings, allowing three runs and striking out 10 Reds. He had some defensive help, with Dexter Fowler stealing a potential three-run homerun from Jay Bruce in the 5th inning.

The offense came within striking distance with a Jason Giambi RBI Double in the 7th and a solo homerun from Miguel Olivo in the 8th inning. The Rockies loaded the bases with zero outs in the 8th inning, but Arthur Rhodes escaped by striking out Carlos Gonzalez.

Bronson Arroyo earned his 10th win and Francisco Cordero pitched the ninth for his 25th save of the season. Hammel fell to 7-4 on the year.
