The Auburn Tigers and the Oregon Ducks made themselves locks for the January 10, 2011 BCS National Championship game by winning the SEC Championship game and defeating the Oregon State Beavers, respectively, on Saturday afternoon. This will make for an exciting and offensive match-up to determine the national championship. It will also feature two Heisman Trophy candidates in Auburn's Cameron Newton (28 pass touchdowns, 20 rushing touchdowns) and Oregon's LaMichael James (1682 rushing yards, 21 touchdowns).
Most of the Top 25 teams were off this week, so the rankings won't change substantially when they are released on Sunday. No. 15 Virginia Tech has just about finished off No. 21 Florida State for the ACC championship, but the Big East and the Big 12 are still up in the air. If Connecticut holds off South Florida, the Huskies will take the Big East's automatic qualifier; otherwise, West Virginia will take the spot. No. 13 Nebraska currently holds a 20-17 lead over No. 9 Oklahoma at halftime of the Big 12 Championship. This will be the last Big 12 Championship game until the conference returns to 12 members.
The Boise State Broncos defeated Utah State, 50-14, but will not make a BCS bowl game.
On Sunday night, we'll have the final BCS standings unveiled as well as the official bowl selection show.
