The Duke Blue Devils were also the unanimous No. 1 team in the USA Today Top 25 Basketball Poll this week, receiving all 31 first-place votes. There was also a bit of a shuffle inside the top 10 teams. Ohio State stayed at No. 2, but Kansas, Connecticut and Syracuse moved up or into the top five.
The Kansas State Wildcats moved down one spot to No. 6, and the Tennessee Volunteers moved from No. 13 to No. 7 after defeating the then-ranked No. 3 Pittsburgh Panthers. The Panthers' first loss dropped them to No. 8. The Baylor Bears were the only other team to maintain its position inside the top 10.
The San Diego State Aztecs (10-0) made the jump from No. 15 to No. 10. Their 10-0 record is a first in the school's history. Fellow Mountain West Conference teammate BYU (10-0) made a three-place jump to No. 18 this week. Guard Jimmer Fredette was named the MWC Player of the Week for the second time this season.
The Louisville Cardinals (8-0) were the only new entry to the USA Today Top 25 poll this week, appearing at No. 21. The Washington Huskies, who were No. 22, dropped out of the poll after losing to the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies were the last team out, receiving 39 votes.
