2010 Bowl Projections: Independence Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl And The Rest Of The Mountain West

The Mountain West bowl projections are becoming more clear with no. 20 Utah scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter and also needing a blocked kick to defeat BYU which means Utah is the odds on favorite to go to the Las Vegas Bowl. Air Force is still looking like they will be heading to the Independence Bowl against the seventh ACC team, and no. 3 TCU is heading to the BCS by routing New Mexico.

As a reminder the Mountain West goes by bowl selection and not by order of finish which is why even though Utah beat BYU there is a small chance that BYU could go to Las Vegas. Also, the Armed Forces Bowl which has a Mountain West tie-in will not have a MWC participant since TCU is heading to the BCS thus leaving the league with not enough bowl eligible teams.

Now onto the full bowl projections of the Mountain West Conference.

Rose Bowl

TCU Horned Frogs vs. Wisconsin Badgers

Las Vegas Bowl

Utah Utes vs. Ohio Bobcats

Poinsettia Bowl

San Diego State Aztecs vs. Navy Midshipmen

Independence Bowl

Air Force Falcons vs. Clemson Tigers

New Mexico Bowl

BYU Cougars vs. Fresno State Bulldogs

The Las Vegas Bowl will not have enough Pac-10 teams and it is looking like a MAC team will get that spot. The MAC has three bowl spots but have six bowl eligible teams, which by the way will be more then the Pac-10. Look for some of these bowl spots to become official soon now that most teams have finished their regular season.
