Josh McDaniels Says His Job Status Isn't In His Control

The Denver Broncos haven’t been great this season, compiling a 3-8 record on the field and a $50,000 fine off the field under second-year head coach Josh McDaniels. It certainly didn’t help matters when the Broncos were defeated by the St. Louis Rams over the weekend, either.

Still, McDaniels told the Associated Press that his job status isn’t something he’s worrying about.

“It’s not, you know, not my decision, not something that’s in my control,” McDaniels said of his job status. “I’m just going to worry about what I can focus on and try to control the things that I can control.”

Essentially, it doesn’t sound as if he’s trying to make any excuses for the team’s performance this season.

“The one thing I can do is control the things that I can control and focus on what I can focus on and do my job and live the right way and do the right things and try to continue to do that with our football team, and try to provide a positive influence and a positive source of leadership for this team and this organization.”

The Broncos will go on the road to play the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.

St. Louis Rams Hold Onto 36-33 Victory Over Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos don't have a problem on offense. It's the defense that is the lingering elephant in the room. Just take a look at today's 36-33 loss to the St. Louis Rams. After opening up the game with a 10-0 lead, the Denver Broncos were down 33-13 at the start of the fourth quarter. The offense showed up for 20 points in that quarter, but the defense was barely anywhere to be seen all day long. As a result, the St. Louis Rams won their first road game in over a year.

Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford set career bests in yards (308) and touchdowns (3). He repeatedly found wide open receivers, including two touchdown passes to tight end Billy Bajema. Those were the first two in Bajema's six-year career. Rookie receiver Danario Alexander actually played today and put up a solid four catches for 95 yards. Running back Steven Jackson edged his way to 72 yards on 29 carries.

Kyle Orton had another 300-yard game (347) on 24-of-41 passing with three touchdown passes. All three touchdown passes came in the fourth quarter when the Broncos managed to make the game a three-point difference. Brandon Lloyd caught two of the touchdowns (76 receiving yards in the game), while Eddie Royal dominated the drive in which he caught the touchdown. He made three consecutive catches, all over 15 yards. Royal finished with six receptions for 74 yards.

Running back Knowshon Moreno rushed 12 times for 56 yards and a touchdown, the score coming on the first drive of the game. He also caught six passes for 62 yards. Rookie receiver Eric Decker caught his first two career passes, the second a 38-yard pass that set up Orton's final touchdown pass to Lloyd.

The Broncos are now 3-8 and still last in the AFC West. They travel to Kansas City on Sunday, Dec. 5 to face the Chiefs.

Rookie wide receiver Eric Decker had his first career reception earlier in the game, but his second reception may play a pivotal role in the final outcome of the game. Decker, wide open between two Rams defenders, caught a 38-yard pass and went down at the two-yard line.

Two plays later, Kyle Orton his Brandon Lloyd for a five-yard touchdown. That was Orton’s third touchdown of the day and Lloyd’s second. The Broncos are down 36-33 with 2:30 left to play.

Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal dominated the team’s latest scoring drive, catching three straight passes. On 3rd-and-17, Royal made a 24-yard catch for the first down and then followed that with a reception on a short pass that he ran for 17 yards. But it was the 16-yard pass in the middle of the field that Royal caught and then rocketed into the end zone.

The Broncos are now down 36-26 after Jabar Gaffney failed to catch the two-point conversion.
