Rockies vs. Dodgers game recap: Colorado loses second straight, 3-0

The Colorado Rockies lost their second straight to the Dodgers, falling on Saturday night 3-0.

Starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood lasted just four innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four. The Dodgers would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a Matt Kemp home run and a A.J. Ellis RBI single. Kemp would homer again in the eighth inning of Josh Roenicke.

The Rockies managed just seven hits in the game, with no batters recording multiple hits. Dodgers starting pitcher Joe Blanton struck out six in six innings, and the Rockies were unable to solve three Los Angeles relievers the rest of the way.

Colorado had won four in a row coming into the weekend series against Los Angeles, but have now lost 19 games in the month of September. With just four games remaining in the season, the Rockies will look to avoid a sweep on Sunday against the Dodgers in the final game of the series. First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. MT.

Rockies vs. Dodgers: Game time, tv schedule and more

The Colorado Rockies resume their weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday evening after dropping the first game of the series at Dodger Stadium.

Colorado will try to slow down the Dodger offense following the 8-0 loss on Friday night which snapped a four-game winning streak for the Rockies. Tyler Chatwood (5-5, 5.49 ERA) is slated to start for the Rockies, as the right-hander tries to win his second consecutive start. Chatwood also earned the win in his last start against the Dodgers in late August, when he pitched five innings, allowing five hits and just two runs in the 8-4 win. The Dodgers must win out and the St. Louis Cardinals must lose out in order for Los Angeles to make the playoffs.

Los Angeles counters with right-hander Joe Blanton (9-13, 4.86 ERA) on the mound to start the game. Blanton hasn't won a game since his last start on August 29th against Colorado when he pitched seven and one-third innings and gave up 10 hits but just three runs.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:10 p.m. MT with broadcast coverage on ROOT and 850 KOA.

Rockies vs. Dodgers game recap: Clayton Kershaw K's 10 in 8-0 Dodgers win

Clayton Kershaw got the best of the Colorado Rockies' lineup and pitched eight strong innings, striking out ten batters while allowing just five hits and walking two as the Los Angeles Dodgers prevailed, 8-0.

The Dodgers had their way with Rockies starter Jeff Francis as the lefty allowed five runs, four of which came in the second inning, and six hits in just four innings of work. Most of the damage was done off a three-run shot from Shane Victorino that plated Hanley Ramirez and Andre Ethier that gave Los Angeles a 4-0 lead.

Catcher Wilin Rosario had the only extra base hit of the evening for Colorado and was 1-for-4 on the evening. The Rockies left six runners on base and was 0-of-4 with runners in scoring position. With the loss, Francis moves to 5-7 on the year while Kershaw improved his record to 13-9.

Game 2 of the three-game series will be on Saturday at 7:10 p.m. MT.
