Jim Tracy not on hot seat with Rockies ... yet

Kelley L Cox-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Prior to the season, the Colorado Rockies told manager Jim Tracy that he can run the club for as long as he wants. Now, it appears that the team's horrific season may lead to a change of plans ... or will it?

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy is not currently on the hot seat, but there have been rumblings that the Rockies plan to talk about the manager position following the season, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

Tracy is operating on somewhat of a handshake agreement, as Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd hinted prior to the season that Tracy could manage the club for as long as he wants. However, as Heyman says, seasons in which teams lose nearly 100 games can change a lot of offseason plans, so it remains to be seen whether or not Tracy will be part of those heading into 2013.

Therefore, Tracy's "indefinite" status, combined with several factors that affected the team's performance -- ranging from injury problems to the return of Coors Field as a complete and utter hitter's paradise -- may lead to his return in 2013. Or it may not. The Rockies don't really seem too clear on their plans at this point, so it's not hard to see why Heyman is waffling a bit, as well.
