Matt Williams to interview with Rockies on Monday

The Rockies will conclude their interviews for the open managerial post on Monday when they meet with Diamondbacks third-base coach Matt Williams. The team is expected to come to a decision on the position in a few days.

The Colorado Rockies will interview Matt Williams for their vacant managerial position on Monday, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. The team is expected to make a decision on the vacancy shortly thereafter.

Williams, along with Jason Giambi, Walt Weiss and Tom Runnels, is one of the Rockies' final four candidates for the position. He is currently the third-base coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and is also serving as the manager for the Arizona Fall League's Salt River Rafters, who feature eight Rockies prospects on their team. The Toronto Blue Jays are also considering Williams for their open managerial post.

In 17 big-league seasons as a player, Williams hit .268/.317/.480 with 378 home runs, won four Gold Glove awards and was a five-time All-Star selection. He last played in 2003 with the Diamondbacks.

Williams is the last of the candidates to interview. Runnells met with Rockies brass on Oct. 7, while Weiss and Giambi held their formal interviews on Friday.
