The Colorado Rockies are continuing to interview candidates for their open manager spot, and the latest is former Rockies player Walt Weiss, according to the Denver Post. Weiss is also considered one of the stronger candidates for the job, and that is a surprise.

Weiss played shortstop with the Rockies from 1994-97, and was a fan favorite from his hard-nose style of play. He later became as a special assistant to general manager Dan O'Dowd, but he stepped down so that he could become the head coach at Regis Jesuit High School.

2012 was his first year as coach there and he led the team to the 5A state semifinals. That high school coaching is the only experience he has as a manager.

Former Major League player Matt Williams has also emerged as a candidate for the Rockies' job. Williams is currently the third-base coach for Arizona. The only other people who have publicly been known to interview for the job are Jason Giambi and Rockies bench coach Tom Runnells.
