Rockies vs. Diamondbacks: Jhoulys Chacin out to end season as a winner

With a 13-inning, 7-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night, the Rockies guaranteed that they wouldn't reach 100 losses in 2012, although their 97 losses is already a franchise worst. With little left to play for on Tuesday, Jhoulys Chacin can at least take advantage of an opportunity to end his 2012 season on a high note.

The season certainly didn't begin as planned for Chacin, who lost three of his first five starts before a pectoral injury held him out of the lineup for the next three months. He finally returned to start on Aug. 21 and earned his first victory of the season.

Since his return, Chacin has a 3-2 record, including a win over the Cubs in his most recent start. To earn a win in his final start of the season, Chacin will have to hold the Diamondbacks in check and best Patrick Corbin.

September was the worst month of the season for Corbin, who finished the month with a 1-2 record and 7.40 ERA. In each of his last two starts, Corbin had to be pulled from the mound after only three innings, including a Sept. 22 game against the Rockies when he allowed nine hits, five earned runs and two home runs in just three innings.

The first pitch on Tuesday is scheduled to be thrown at 7:40 p.m. MT at Chase Field and will be televised on Root Sports-Rocky Mountain and FOX Sports Arizona.
