Anthony Carter still has plenty of on-court basketball to play

The former Nuggets guard says he still has plenty of basketball left to play, as he attempts to make the Denver roster this preseason.

Anthony Carter, despite 13 seasons as an NBA journeyman, says he still has plenty of basketball left and that he's not worried his future when his career does end, according to the Nuggets' team website.

"I feel like I can still play," Carter said Thursday. "Just playing these last few days, it's been great to be able to run up and down, push the ball and get into people on the defensive end."

Carter, 37, has played in 623 career games with stops in Miami, San Antonio, Minnesota, Denver, New York and Toronto. Carter played 24 games for the Raptors in 2011-12, averaging 8.7 minutes off the bench. The guard hasn't started an NBA game since 2009-10. His longest stint with any team in his career came with the Nuggets, spending parts of five seasons with Denver between 2006 and 2011.

The veteran worked out for the Charlotte Bobcats, but returned to Denver after being told the team was going with younger players. He'll be facing an uphill battle with the Nuggets as a non-roster invitee, as Denver already has 15 players under contract for the coming season.

Carter expects to become a coach after his playing career is complete, whenever that time might come.
