The Denver Pioneers fell slightly in both polls after a split in a rare two game week. On Tuesday, the Pioneers feel fell by a goal in overtime to a top ten opponent for the second game in a row as they lost 9-8 against Cornell at a neutral site in Hempstead, New York. On Saturday, DU was able to get back in the win column with a 11-8 defeat of the Air Force Falcons in Colorado Springs.
In the Nike Media Poll Denver fell one spot to No. 10 and in the USILA Coaches Poll the Pioneers slipped two spots to the same record. The pollsters seem to be giving the team credit for two close losses against some of the nation's top opponents, but at some point Denver needs to break through for a big win away from Peter Barton Stadium (although they did take down No. 18/18 Penn State on the road).
In national action, Johns Hopkins was able to take down former No. 1 Virginia 11-10 in overtime one week after beating Syracuse to take over the top spots in both polls. In the Coaches Poll, undefeated UMASS was able to jump Virginia for the No. 2 spot, but they remained behind the Cavaliers in the Nike Poll. Cornell was able to stay undefeated after their mid-week win over Denver and beat Penn 16-11 to rise to No. 4/5.
The 5-3 Pioneers finally return home after a four game road stretch to take on Hobart on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
