The Denver Pioneers had two players selected in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.

The Denver Pioneers lacrosse team is a few weeks away from starting its exhibition schedule, but two members of the team already have jobs lined up once their college careers come to an end in May. Attackers Mark Matthews and Alex Demopoulos were both selected in the 2012 Major League Lacrosse Draft last week. Matthews went No. 4 overall to the Denver Outlaws while Demopoulos went No. 24 overall to the Ohio Machine.

Matthews, 6 feet 4 and 210 pounds, scored 46 goals and had 70 total points in 18 games as a junior for the Pioneers. Demopoulos, 5 feet 10 and 190 pounds, was second in the team with 58 points (30 goals, 28 assists).

The Denver Outlaws received a B-minus grade from In Lax We Trust for the draft, calling Matthews a player the team "can build around." Matthews is well acquainted with the player the Outlaws drafted just two picks later, Virginia's Colin Briggs. Briggs and the Cavaliers faced Matthews and the Pioneers in the NCAA Tournament Semifinals last season. The Cavs won and went on to win the national championship.
