With college football expansion quiet for now, could we actually see contraction in that world down the road? Well, Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton, who just signed a five-year agreement with DirecTV Sports Network and the ROOT Sports regional networks, sees something happening to football out west in a few years (via the Salt Lake Tribune):
↵↵↵"If we look around, we can win this game," he said. "In three or four years, there will be three football playing conferences left in the West — the Pac-12, the Mountain West and us."

That means bye-bye to the WAC as a football-playing entity. The WAC picks up five teams this summer, but the Denver Pioneers, the Seattle Redhawks and the Texas-Arlington Mavericks do not field football teams. The Texas State Bobcats and the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners do. Boise State's re-entry in 2013 is for all sports except for football. Fresno State, Hawaii and Nevada all leave for the Mountain West this summer (Hawaii's non-football teams to the Big West).
