The Denver Pioneers continued its impressive undefeated start and earned its most eye-popping win to date by defeating the St. Mary's Gaels, 70-58, Wednesday night at Magness Arena. Senior forward Rob Lewis led the way for the Pioneers, finishing with 17 points on 4-of-8 shooting and three rebounds. Teammate Chris Udofia added 13 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the win.
The loss was St. Mary's first of the season. The Gaels were led by Rob Jones, who scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Matthew Dellavedova chipped in 20 points in the loss.
The win comes at a good time for Denver, as the Pioneers' schedule isn't about to get any easier. A trip to No. 18 Cal is up next on Saturday, followed by a trip to Utah State. If the Pioneers can score another upset win in the non-conference schedule, it would go along way to improving their NCAA Tournament resume out of the Sun Belt.
