Nuggets Free Agency 2012: Denver Makes Qualifying Offer To JaVale McGee

When the Denver Nuggets dealt Nene and acquired JaVale McGee at the trade deadline, it was assumed that the team was ready to invest in the mercurial but supremely talented center. After McGee had a few breakout games in Denver's first round playoff series vs. the Los Angeles Lakers, that seemed even more likely. On Sunday, the Nuggets took the first step towards a long term commitment with McGee, reportedly offering him a qualifying offer that will make him a restricted free agent.

According to Hoops Hype, that qualifying offer is for $3,494,144. McGee will be free to sign an offer sheet with any team, but the Nuggets will have the opportunity to match that offer.
