2012 NBA Draft: Nuggets Select Izzet Turkyilmaz With 50th Overall Pick

Stay connected for news and updates

After nabbing a pair of wing players with their first two picks, the Denver Nuggets have selected Turkish center Izzet Turkyilmaz with the 50th overall pick in Thursday night's NBA draft. The Nuggets will likely stash this pick in Europe for a few years, allowing him to develop before potentially bringing him over to join the team in Denver.

Standing at 7-foot-1, Turkyilmaz has the kind of height that could potentially make him a useful player on an NBA frontline with some development and growth. He's pretty slender, weighing in at just 211 pounds, but he's the kind of draft pick that won't arrive in the NBA for years anyways.

Clearly, the Nuggets didn't believe that they would be able to draft a player this late in the second round that could ultimately help the team. In Turkyilmaz, Denver takes a flier on a player with size and athleticism that might turn into something useful down the road.
