Denver Nuggets guard Rudy Fernandez has been bothered by lingering soreness in his strained right Achilles tendon, and after he had to leave in the second quarter of Sunday's game against Utah, he is day-to-day as he tries to rest the foot.
According to this report from the Nuggets, Fernandez probably will not play in the team's game on Tuesday night.
"It’s feeling better, but every day when I start to run, when I start to jump, it’s bothering me," Fernandez said Monday. "We’ll see with the treatment what happens."
Fernandez, who is averaging 8.5 points and 3.5 assists per game, would not speculate on a potential return date. He also said that Denver's hectic schedule probably contributed to the injury -- Denver opened the season with nine games in 13 days.

The Denver Nuggets could not keep up with Utah in the fourth quarter on Sunday night and the visiting Jazz, 106-96. Part of the reason for that was Paul Millsap, who caught fire in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 26 points on 12-19 shooting. He also grabbed 12 rebounds.
For the Nuggets, Nene Hilario and Danilo Gallinari had 18 points each; Arron Afflalo had 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The team lost Rudy Fernandez to an Achilles strain in the second quarter, and Chris Andersen suffered what appeared to be a minor injury in the second half.
The Nuggets, who'd won two in a row heading into Sunday, begin a five-game road trip in Milwaukee on Tuesday.

The Nuggets, who are playing without Rudy Fernandez in the second half, are led by Nene Hilario's 15 points, though the star forward also has a handful of turnovers. Ty Lawson has 11 points, while Arron Afflalo has 10. Denver is shooting 49.1% from the field.

The Denver Nuggets are tied with the Utah Jazz at halftime on Sunday night, and if they're going to prevail, they're going to have to do so without guard Rudy Fernandez, who suffered an Achilles strain in the second quarter that will prevent him from playing in the second half.

With five games in the next six nights, the Denver Nuggets will certainly see their considerable depth tested. One guy that may benefit the most from this congested schedule is Jordan Hamilton, who according to the Denver Nuggets Twitter account has been recalled from the Idaho Stampede of the NBADL:

#Nuggets recall rookie G/F@J_Goin_HAM from Idaho Stampede of NBA Development League. Hamilton inactive vs. Utah.
Hamilton, who was a first round pick by the Dallas Mavericks, has the potential to provide a scoring boost off the bench for Denver if he is called upon. Hamilton was an excellent scorer at the University of Texas, averaging 18.6 ppg during his sophomore season. However, the talented guard had trouble playing in the confines of the offensive system for Rick Barnes. Hamilton has yet to make his NBA debut, but was averaging 9.7 ppg in his six appearances with the Stampede.

The Denver Nuggets are only 2.5 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Northwest Division and looking to gain some momentum following back-to-back victories over the New Jersey Nets and the Miami Heat. This would certainly be the week to gain some ground, as the Nuggets play five games over the next seven days, including the first four games of a five-game road trip.
On Sunday evening, they will first need to deal with the Utah Jazz, as they host their division rivals at the Pepsi Center in Denver. The Jazz are just a half-game behind the Nuggets and have won seven of their last 10 games. The two teams faced off on December 28, in a game where Denver came away with a 117-100 win. They'll be hoping for a similar result on Sunday.
The game is scheduled to tip off at 8:00 PM ET. The television broadcast will air on Altitude and NBA League Pass.
