Denver Nuggets, Kosta Koufos Agree To Three-Year Contract Extension

The Denver Nuggets have agreed to a three-year, $9 million contract extension with big man Kosta Koufos, according to Sam Amick of SI.com. The deal is guaranteed for the first two years while the Nuggets hold a team option on the final year of the contract.

Koufos, 22, has appeared in ten games with the Nuggets this season. He's averaged 3.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, although he only plays sparingly. Koufos was the Utah Jazz's first-round pick in 2008 before two trades have landed him in Denver. The Nuggets acquired him in the deal that sent Carmelo Anthony to New York.

The former Ohio State star doesn't play often due to the presence of other big men in Denver's rotation. The Nuggets already have Nene Hilario, Timofey Mozgov, Al Harrington and Chris Andersen in front of Koufos on the depth chart, and they drafted Kenneth Faried last year.

Danilo Gallinari Contract: Nuggets Agree To Extension With Young Forward

More: Do you like the Gallinari contract?

With the in-season deadline for contract extensions between players still on their rookie contracts and their current teams rapidly approaching, it appears as if the Denver Nuggets and small forward Danilo Gallinari are close to an extension that would keep the Italian star in Denver for the next four seasons.

According to Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post, the Nuggets and Gallinari are close to agreeing on a four-year contract extension that would be worth $42 million. Gallinari was acquired by the Nuggets as the centerpiece of the Carmelo Anthony trade, and Gallinari would join Nene and Arron Afflalo, who both recently inked long term deals with the team, as the core of the Nuggets franchise.

Gallinari, who has thrived in George Karl's open offense, is averaging a career high 17.4 points per game this season, to go along with 5.2 rebounds.

Danilo Gallinari, Nuggets Negotiating Extension, According To Report

Danilo Gallinari and the Denver Nuggets are busy negotiating a potential contract extension to keep the young Italian forward in Denver long-term, according to Mark Stein of ESPN. The deadline for completing in-season extensions is January 25th, so any developments on a new deal for Gallinari will happen over the next twelve days or it will have to wait for the offseason. He is currently under contract through 2012-13 and would be owed $5.6 million next year under the terms of his current deal, but the sharpshooter is certainly looking for a substantial raise. Gallinari recently spoke about how he would love to sign an extension before the deadline with the organization, but that if it can't be done he will wait until the offseason too.

As noted by Stein, Derrick Rose is the only member of the 2008 draft class to have signed an early extension, but others like Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love and Nicolas Batum are waiting along with Gallinari to get something done. Galo currently leads the team in points per game with 17.2 points on an impressive 47 percent shooting. What remains to be seen is how much Denver thinks he is worth, especially after dishing out over $100 million in salary commitments to Arron Afflalo and Nene during the offseason. Remember, the team still holds the rights to another young forward who would also like an extension: Wilson Chandler. However, Chandler will not return to the NBA until the Chinese Basketball Association's season ends, so the Nuggets may be able to can that can down the road just a bit while focusing on locking up Gallinari.
