NBA Trade Deadline: Carmelo Anthony Rumors Still Swirling, But Not With Mavericks

The good news is that there is less than a week left until the NBA trade deadline, meaning just six more days are left for Denver Nuggets fans to wonder if Carmelo Anthony is going to be traded to the Nets, Knicks, Mavericks, Rockets, Lakers or any other team that randomly pops up before next Thursday’s 2 p.m. deadline.

The bad news is that the Carmelo trade rumors will keep pouring in right up until that deadline.

ESPN’s Marc Stein dropped a couple of notes in a piece for TrueHoop today, and while some of them were already out there — the Nuggets opened talks with the Nets again — he also added a few new interesting tidbits.

First, the Nuggets are “encouraging” a face-to-face meeting between Anthony and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov this weekend at the NBA All-Star events in Los Angeles according to Stein’s source “close to the process.”

Not to leave the ever-present Knicks out of the conversation, Stein mentions that New York owner James Dolan has “a Melo-at-all-costs stance” according to some observers and if GM Donnie Walsh is able to bring him in now rather than having to wait until free agency, it would probably allow Walsh to get a contract extension sooner than later.

Last, but not least, Stein notes that the Dallas Mavericks have all but dropped out of the Carmelo Sweepstakes since they’re all but certain that Anthony wouldn’t re-sign with the team. Well, they might still be interested, but not to the point that they’d include Rodrigue Beaubois, their best young prospect.

For more details on these rumors, check out Stein’s entire column and stay tuned to this StoryStream for all of the Carmelo Anthony trade deadline updates up until next week’s NBA trade deadline.
