Steve Makway has become the third player signed to the 2012-2013 roster for the Denver Cutthroats. The 6-foot, 230-pound defenseman will add to the veteran leadership of Aaron MacKenzie and Luke Fulghum. This will be Makway's ninth season in profession hockey, which includes six seasons in the CHL where he recorded 172 points (35 goals and 137 assists) in 289 contests.
Makway brings size and grit, as well as some offensive help, to the blueline. According to head coach Derek Armstrong, the 29-year-old, Trail, British Columbia native "plays in all situations–five-on-five, power play, penalty kill." Armstrong went on to say, "And he’s experienced in what it takes to win in the CHL, so we’re excited to add him to our defensive unit."
Makway comes out of the Western Hockey League, spending three seasons with the Kootenay Ice and Tri-City Americans, and has seen time in the United Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League and UK-based Elite Ice Hockey League.
